Afterschool Programs for Grades 6-8

In concert with the calendar for the Pittsburgh Public Schools, we operate REACH ACADEMY, an afterschool program for 60 students in grades 6-8.  It operates Monday through Friday, from 3:30 to 6:00 pm.  We emphasize academics, and helping participants gain math, reading, and problem-solving skills.  Our program coordinators include certified educators, and our teachers are trained, caring adults. Student to staff ratios are no higher than 10:1, and are lower when volunteer tutors arrive to assist.

Each day, students receive a healthy snack, homework help, and academic assistance under the guidance of our staff members and volunteer tutors.  Students choose electives from among music, ecology, and recreation.  All students also log hours in our computer lab, enhancing academic skills.

Through weekly Bible studies and life application discussions, students grow in their knowledge and love of God, and how they can follow Christ in their daily activities.  Students participate in “Club,” a weekly event which includes a meal, games, and large-group worship. Occasionally, our staff members organize service projects in which participants make differences in the lives of other people.

Our staff members model healthy relationships with one another and with students, so that young people can learn to treat each other with respect. Through group discussions and weekly Bible instruction, students acquire conflict resolution skills, and learn of God’s deep love for them.

Summer Camp for Grades 6-8

For eight weeks during during the summer months, we operate REACH CAMP for students entering grades 6-8.  It extends the spirit of our afterschool program into the summer season, adding recreational activities, breakfast and lunch, age-specific experiential education activities, a week of "sleepaway" camp on the shores of Lake Michigan, and additional field trips.   A low staff-to-student ratio allows for highly relational activities. It runs Monday through Friday, from 8:30 am to 2:00 pm, serving 80 students.

For an additional cost of $100 per student, we offer a Monday-Friday aftercamp program that meets from 2:00-5:00 pm.   Enrollment is on a first-come, first-served basis, and a $25 per student deposit is required at the time of registration.
