Student Life
Nearly everything you need to know about student life (and likely much more) is described in the Student Handbook. Items not covered there are, happily, addressed below.
ROOM AND BOARD: Students at Pittsburgh Semester live in our Guesthouse. Furnished suites sleep up to four people each and have their own bathrooms. Common lounge areas offer ample space for studying and relaxing. You’ll cook your own meals in the fully furnished kitchen on the first floor of the guesthouse. (You pay your regular board fees to your college and we supply breakfast foods and stipends to purchase foods for other meals.) Laundry facilities are also available to you free of charge, though you need to supply your own detergent. Pittsburgh Semester also has a Resident Life Coordinator, Mona El-Shamaa, who lives on the first floor of the Guesthouse.
ARTS AND CULTURE: Like most cities, Pittsburgh has a lively cultural and artistic scene. We’ll sample that in different ways throughout the semester: eating at an ethnic restaurant during orientation, visiting different neighborhoods through class field trips, and attending occasional plays and musical events in the cultural district downtown. In addition, the Resident Life Coordinator will organize informal trips to local festivals, neighborhood gatherings, and other special events.
